The Art of Robert Magee
THE ESCORTS
The painting remembers the Governor General of Canada’s 1881 tour of the Western prairies. The scene is in Montana being met by the US Calvary to be escorted south to catch a train back to Ottawa. I will travel far in the interest of authenticity. I walk the site of a subject to observe the terrain and make landscape studies. I consult with historians and expert horsemen. First the understanding, then its expression.
