I was able to get a Belmont press pass to capture Secretariat’s breathtaking Triple Crown victory. I visited him many times at the Claiborne Farm, Kentucky. The last time, Secretariat’s regular handler positioned me so I would get the best shot for my painting. On October 4, 1989, while I was working on the painting for my exhibition at the Kentucky Horse Park in 1990, I heard of his death. The painting was also exhibited at the “Man o’ War and Secretariat, Thoroughbreds of the Century”, 1991 also at the Horse Park.
The painting hangs in my studio reminding me how lucky I was to witness racing history.
